An oil study of Merseyside's one man anti-smoking campaigner.
Ask almost anyone on Merseyside and they will have
seen this gentleman, together with his old bike, virtually
all over Merseyside. He's been around 30 years, yet
no one knows anything about him. Where he lives, his name, or why
he carries on his one man campaign. According to a recent press report his name is Ulberto Mariani, aged 69 and lives in Wellesley Road, Liverpool.
When I spoke to him about doing his portrait he gave me the impression that he doesn't speak English, and
it's believed he's either Spanish, Italian or Portuguese. I find him a fascinating subject and soon hope to complete
a more formal portrait of him, together with his bike.
